Deaf Facility at BCS

The Deaf Facility at Bishopstown Community School provides Deaf and hard of hearing students with the opportunity to gain a high quality education within a supportive environment.

 

The Deaf Facility was established within the mainstream structure of Bishopstown Community School in 2009. The Deaf Facility currently offers provision for 20 Deaf and hard of hearing students. It offers the opportunity for students to access their education in Cork.

Bishopstown Community School offers a unique environment for Deaf students to achieve their potential. The Deaf Facility has qualified and experienced staff such as a qualified Irish Sign Language Interpreter, qualified teachers of the Deaf and a qualified resource teacher.

Students attending The Deaf Facility sit the Junior Certificate and the Leaving Certificate with an aim to continue onto Third Level Education.

During State Examinations we ensure that the following Reasonable Accommodations are provided:

  • Separate Centre

  • Reader/Scribe with Irish Sigh Language

  • Additional time/breaks
